Producers Dub Sonata and Alex Fitts of The Kickdrums have launched their new collaborative project, Stolen Days, with the release of debut single ‘Butterfly’, an atmospheric introduction to a partnership built on experimentation and shared creative ambition.
Blending dream pop, hip-hop and cinematic alternative influences, ‘Butterfly’ pairs acoustic and electric guitars with layered percussion, ethereal vocal textures and understated string arrangements. The result is a richly detailed track that balances intimacy with expansive production, reflecting both artists’ distinctive approaches while forging an entirely new musical identity.
According to the duo, the single emerged from a process of challenging one another creatively, combining their contrasting production styles to create something neither would have arrived at independently. Lyrically, the song centres on themes of personal change and transformation, ideas that underpin the project’s debut release.
Collectively, Dub Sonata and Alex Fitts have worked with artists including SZA, Kid Cudi, Sage Francis and R.A. the Rugged Man, but Stolen Days presents a different side of their artistry. With ‘Butterfly’, the pair establish a thoughtful and immersive sound that promises an intriguing direction for future releases.
