MALUM’s bouncer ep takes material from the band’s debut album every body and pulls it firmly towards the dancefloor, reshaping familiar ideas through a heavier, more nocturnal lens.
But instead of treating the remix format as an afterthought, MALUM hand the material over to artists with their own clearly defined identities. London producer and Perc Trax founder Perc takes ‘bouncer’ into far more abrasive territory, turning the track into an industrial techno piece built around pressure, repetition and physical momentum.
While Mr. Ho’s version of ‘jeweltrain’ moves differently. His blend of house, techno and breakbeat influences gives the track a more percussive, hypnotic quality, creating something that feels less confrontational but no less suited to a club setting. The original ‘launchbox’ then provides a useful point of contrast, helping tie the remixes back to MALUM’s own musical language.
Across the EP, the appeal comes from the tension between raw groove and atmosphere. There are harder, more visceral sections, but also enough space for ambient textures and subtler rhythmic shifts to emerge. A faint jazz influence runs through parts of the project too, adding another layer to the otherwise club-focused direction.
As part of a wider remix trilogy, bouncer ep also makes sense in context. The series allows every body to be viewed from several angles, connecting MALUM’s original material with artists and scenes stretching from Scandinavia to London, Berlin and Hong Kong.
But what makes this instalment particularly effective is its willingness to push the source material somewhere genuinely different. These aren’t simply cleaner or louder versions of existing tracks; they feel like reinterpretations with their own logic and atmosphere.
