Indie rock riser Sam Foster Smith has shared the latest of 2026 singles, the bright and breezy storytelling of ‘Runaways’. A run that has seen new praise, an invigorated fan base and an opener on The Lilacs Spring Tour, ‘Runaways’ once again provides the sparkling sounds of his truly personal heartland rock edge.
Soaring indie textures from glittering guitar lines and keys are framed with an upbeat rhythm section and an infectious, sing-along lead vocal from Foster Smith. As we approach the summer months, listeners are provided with a soundtrack, hazy, relatable and energetic from start to finish.
In his words, “Sometimes I’m just in the mood for a good story. ‘Runaways’ follows a father-and-son outcast. I’ve always observed a certain romance in pariah status, and how—just like glory—it can be inherited. The notion of passing actions down through blood seems ridiculous, and yet we see the ‘sins of the father’ everywhere, often in ourselves. Give it a spin if you want a good yarn!”
This summer, you can find Sam Foster Smith on the Isle of Wight Festival lineup. Spending his time between a West Country homeland and the venues of London, including a recent notable performance at Hoxton’s The Stag’s Head, there’s a lot of energy around this new artist. His skills have been developed as a professional musician, his sessioning skills now earning a fan base all of his own.
