Pocket Lint shares ‘Cyanometer’, a curious first glimpse into his upcoming new album

Pocket Lint, the shape-shifting musical project of Mark Heffernan, returns with his new single ‘Cyanometer’. Known for treating music as a space for miniature worlds rather than fixed genres, Heffernan continues to explore sound as a storytelling medium, with each piece functioning like a carefully assembled vignette.

‘Cyanometer’ offers the first insight into his forthcoming album Wunderkammer, a project built around the concept of a cabinet of curiosities. Each track is imagined as a distinct exhibit, contributing to a broader, interconnected experience. The album’s framework suggests a guided journey, beginning with an introduction from an unusual, almost theatrical narrator, before unfolding into a series of musical artefacts.

The origins of Pocket Lint itself feel fittingly unconventional. During the summer of 2020, the artist began experimenting with carving cameos from amethyst by hand; an intricate, tactile process that ultimately gave way to a different form of creation. That shift from physical craft to musical composition informs the project’s sensibility; producing something detailed, exploratory, and driven by curiosity within a synth-pop lens.

There’s a literary thread running through ‘Cyanometer’, shaped in part by his own engagement with romantic-era poetry. Echoes of Percy Bysshe Shelley and Samuel Taylor Coleridge can be felt in the track’s atmosphere and structure through its sense of wonder and introspection.

As a standalone release, ‘Cyanometer’ feels deliberately open-ended, offering us all an invitation into the wider world of Wunderkammer. It hints at a project concerned with discovery, where each composition offers a different perspective or texture, unified by a shared sense of curiosity.

With the album developed over an extended period since late 2024, ‘Cyanometer’ suggests a thoughtful and carefully constructed body of work on the horizon. For now, it stands as an intriguing entry point into Pocket Lint’s evolving creative landscape, that values exploration as much as expression.
