Moon Construction Kit paints a nighttime fairground on ‘Snake Charmer’

Lausanne artist Moon Construction Kit has unveiled ‘Snake Charmer’, texturing an indie-rock sound with a psychedelic atmosphere, cinematic progression and a darker edge. Continuing the sound built by multi-instrumentalist and producer Olivier Cornu under this moniker, the elements of baroque pop lean into a haunting fairground atmosphere, with bright lights but an eeriness all the same.

Peeling back the wall of layers, we hear spacious drums, folky strings, a mass of vocals and guitars, underlined by an icy piano and a nostalgic Mellotron. To the benefit of the listener, the broad arrangement makes every listen new again, and the feeling of every element rising towards comes back to swell in your heart each time.

In Olivier’s words, “With ‘Snake Charmer’, I was aiming for a vibe that feels like a fairground at night, something beautiful but a little bit haunting. I used a crystalline, glassy piano and Mellotron to give it that lush, 60s psych-pop sound, but the lyrics are actually quite clinical. It’s about that moment where you realise the cure you’re following, whether it’s a person or a pill, is actually the problem. By the time the Big Pharma mantra kicks in at the end, I wanted the whole song to feel like a machine that’s finally started to spiral out of control.”

Moon Construction Kit first emerged in 2022 with a self-titled EP, but is making a step forward in 2026, re-establishing a layered, psych-pop leaning sound.
