Matt C. White spectacularly channels primal psychedelia on gritty new single ‘Blood Divine’

Brooklyn-based artist Matt C. White dives deep into ancestral vibes on his latest release ‘Blood Divine’, the second preview of his forthcoming full-length ‘A Cosmic Year’. Following the swirling success of ‘The Way Down’, this new track hits harder, darker, and with an unmistakable pulse. White’s signature saturation of fuzz and groove is in full force, but it’s the track’s guttural energy and drive that make it so special.

Opening with an eerie wah-laced riff that feels like a warning siren, ‘Blood Divine’ wastes no time erupting into a pounding storm of percussion, snarling guitar layers, and vocals that teeter between chant and invocation. It’s raw, primal, and heavy- deliberately evocative of something ancient. As White puts it, the song explores “this sort of ancient conflict… predators consuming prey in order to steal their ‘blood divine’.” It’s a gripping metaphor for survival and sacrifice, painted in red over layers of molten psych-rock.

Beneath the distortion lies careful architecture: percussion like a heartbeat under threat, and synthesisers that shimmer like heat waves There’s a cohesion in the chaos- one that ties back to the broader vision of ‘A Cosmic Year’, a project White calls the “culmination” of his creative life thus far.

Fans of stoner fuzz, trippy breakdowns, and genre-blurring experimentation will find plenty to dig into here. Think early Soundgarden filtered through a psychedelic kaleidoscope of Santana-style leads and apocalyptic groove. White recorded and played every instrument himself, lending ‘Blood Divine’ a DIY ethos that only enhances appreciation for its sharp, untamed edge.

With this track, Matt C. White is dipping into the well of classic psych-rock, and he’s turning it into his own vessel for existential themes, mythic tension, and full-throttle sound. ‘Blood Divine’ is a must-listen.
