Jason Bembry has shared his latest single ‘My Friends’, once again embracing a new sound he premiered with the more emotive synth-driven alt-pop we saw in recent single ‘Frozen Hearts’. The New Jersey songwriter continues to seek unique and modern soundscapes.
‘My Friends’ opens with an after-dark sound, with filtered vocals peaking through a mixture of wobbling and reversed synthesisers. From there, the brooding vocal invites Jason’s more uplifting brightness, helped along by the mid-tempo electronica grooves in the percussion. Neon, cinematic and punchy from start to finish.
Bembry explains, “My Friends is all about the isolation and self-confidence that comes from feeling othered by people you thought were your friends. Sometimes, we need to write them out of our lives in order to move on.”
A classically trained pianist now bringing his knowledge of music theory and composition to his style, Bembry debuted in 2018 but has showcased his aptitude across different eras in the years since.
