Jack Simpson shares insight into ‘Babies Are Boring’

The songwriter hailing from North Yorkshire, Jack Simpson, has shared another insight into his music with ‘Babies are Boring’, taken from his six-track EP, Jack Simpson is looking up at the Trees.

A tongue-in-cheek track with nods to some of Jack’s inspirations has a power-pop and alternative bend with a folky flourish. Bright guitars, repeating hooks, it’s light-hearted, but sees Simpson write from the perspective of the firstborn once a newborn takes centre stage. Still, it’s knowingly underground, melodies bounce around, and lyrics don’t self-censor.

Jack Simpson explains, “I was keen to explore the feelings of the older child when their mother had had another baby. Feelings of alienation and bewilderment are explored. However, tongue in cheek, instead of going up Thunder Road, the subject goes round on their bike in their garden. They then have no one to talk to and so discuss the situation with pet hens. The tune is deliberately repetitious and catchy, and indeed, children appear to love it even though it has been written for adults.”

A sonic craftsman, passionate about songwriting, Jack Simpson always tries to find the untold story, inspired by nature, the people around him and his faith.
