Haus of Sound grapple with illusions and inner chaos on new single ‘Mirage’

Haus of Sound have never been ones to play it safe, and on their new face-melting single ‘Mirage’, they dive headfirst into the shadows, emerging with a track that feels like a fever dream under a desert moon. ‘Mirage’ signals a dramatic pivot from the ska-inspired chaos of ‘Anxiety’ and the neon-drenched heartbreak of ‘Pain in My Eyes’, trading hooks for heavy introspection and raw catharsis.

‘Mirage’ pairs Gabrielle’s soaring, anguished vocals with Dex Morgenstern’s razor-edged spoken-word interludes, evoking the tension of Linkin Park’s dual-vocal dynamics while channelling the spectral atmosphere of early 2000s nu-metal. The lyrics swirl like a sandstorm: lines about chasing illusory ambitions, scaling metaphorical hills only to find another facade, and the painful realisation that the mirage we chase might just be a distorted reflection of ourselves.

The song’s journey mirrors that same exhausting cycle. Each verse feels like another trek up an unending dune: “I climb I push I persevere, And now I’ve lost my way, Chasing what I could have been.” There’s a haunting self-awareness woven through the track, as Gabrielle confesses, “I fall it’s all downhill from here, I fooled myself, That much has become clear.” Rather than wallowing in defeat, the band weaponises that vulnerability, channelling it into an explosive chorus that bursts with frustration and unspent energy.

Haus of Sound borrow from the primal urgency of early 2000s alt titans, but there’s a cinematic grandeur here that’s entirely their own. It’s a track that feels equally at home echoing across a vast canyon as it does rumbling in a sweaty club at midnight. ‘Mirage’ proves that Haus of Sound are not merely mining nostalgia- they’re sculpting something sharp and vital out of it.

With ‘Mirage’, the band doesn’t just step forward; they leap into the abyss, arms wide open, daring you to follow. This is their most daring and immersive release yet- and if it’s a preview of what’s to come on ‘Campfire Stories’, then we’re all in for one hell of a journey.
