On their new single ‘It’s All A Show’, Madrid five-piece FUET! channel frustration, exhaustion and self-erasure into a track about the pressure to become whatever version of yourself a particular room seems to demand.
The song forms the first half of a two-part story completed by June release ‘Roll With It’. Where that track represents the point of accepting yourself, ‘It’s All A Show’ occupies the uglier stage immediately before it: the moment when constantly adjusting your personality, behaviour and identity for other people has become impossible to sustain.
FUET!’s description of their writing as “aggressively positive” makes considerable sense in that context. Rage provides the immediate energy, but the destination is ultimately inclusion and self-acceptance. The band aren’t interested in heaviness as an end in itself; they use it as a way of clearing space.
Musically, their connection to Turnstile, Militarie Gun, High Vis and Basement is understandable, particularly in the willingness to treat hardcore as something flexible rather than stylistically restrictive. ‘It’s All A Show’ appears rooted in the speed and physicality of the genre while leaving enough room for emotional clarity to remain central.
FUET! began without serious plans to play live, continued after what was supposed to be a one-off show, and eventually found themselves winning Mad Cool Talent and appearing at some of Spain’s major festivals.
‘It’s All A Show’ captures the irony neatly. A band that grew by refusing to force itself into a predetermined shape has written a song about the exhaustion of doing exactly that.
Fast, cathartic and purposeful, it finds FUET! turning the desire to belong into a far more useful question: what happens when you stop performing long enough to decide who you actually are?
