With her new collection ‘RECALIBRATED’, Amana Melome’ revisits the material from Recalibration from a noticeably different perspective. Where the original album focused on reflection, reconnection and personal change, this companion project is lighter on its feet, using rhythm and reinterpretation to explore what comes after that process.
The collection moves across deep house, soulful house, jazz-house, funk, disco and dub reggae, with each producer bringing a distinct character to the source material. That range gives the record variety without entirely disconnecting it from the emotional ideas that shaped Recalibration in the first place.
The opening reworking of ‘SO DONE!’, by Joel Holmes and Cee ElAssaad, sets the tone effectively. Its deep-house pulse turns the song’s sense of leaving old patterns behind into something more communal and physical, replacing some of the inward focus of the original with a stronger feeling of release.
Elsewhere, Somos Animales bring dub-reggae textures to ‘CON C.ALMA’, while Opolopo pushes ‘RECALIBRATION’ towards funk and disco. Godblesscomputers introduces a jazz-house perspective, and Deron Johnson’s jazz arrangement, produced by Saverio Principini, offers another change of pace.
The most interesting aspect of the project is the way these different treatments alter the emotional weight of the songs without losing their central themes. The emphasis is less on reinvention for its own sake and more on allowing familiar material to function differently in a new setting.
But ‘RECALIBRATED’ works best as an extension of the original album rather than a separate statement. It adds movement, colour and a more outward-facing energy to material rooted in personal transformation, giving Amana Melome’ a fitting way to close that chapter.
