Lady Synott make their first move count on ‘High Horse’

For their debut single ‘High Horse’, Irish five-piece Lady Synott resist the temptation to overcomplicate things. Instead, they focus on the chemistry of five musicians playing together, listening to one another and knowing exactly when to hold back and when to push.

‘High Horse’’moves from relatively sparse, melodic verses into a fuller, more uplifting chorus, creating a natural rise in intensity rather than relying on sheer volume from the outset. The arrangement feels built for a live room, and that’s no accident.

Recorded largely live at Hellfire Studios in Dublin, the track preserves the interaction that has developed through Lady Synott’s performances across Ireland. The band have already appeared at venues including Whelan’s, The Workman’s Club, The Grand Social, IMMA, Dolan’s in Limerick and Otherside Festival in Slane, and that experience shows in the way this single breathes.

The influence of 60s and 70s rock is woven throughout the single, particularly in its emphasis on melody, vocal harmony and warmth, but the band never sound as though they are trying to recreate a particular era. There are echoes of classic rock tradition, certainly, but also enough contemporary instinct to place them closer to the lineage connecting Fleetwood Mac and the Rolling Stones with modern artists such as Wolf Alice and CMAT.

Lyrically, ‘High Horse’ deals with the complications of relationships, moving between hope, frustration and the need to see things from another perspective. The quieter sections suggest reflection, while the chorus feels like release; not necessarily a resolution, but at least a moment where everything opens up.

As a first statement, ‘High Horse’ feels impressively assured. Lady Synott already sound like a band who understand that good music doesn’t need to shout constantly to make an impact. Sometimes the most effective thing you can do is leave space, build tension, and then let the whole band arrive at once.
