Following July’s ‘augustine’, the track surrounds the artist’s gentle vocal with rich piano, sweeping strings and luscious harmonies. Intimate verses gradually open into expansive choruses, where huge percussion and seemingly endless reverberation give the song a breathtaking sense of scale without sacrificing its vulnerability.
Written and initially demoed at home before being developed with producers overseas, ‘cowboy blues’ explores Matz Patrick’s insecurities surrounding his own creative journey. Although its lyrics can be interpreted through the lens of a relationship, they also document his attempts to understand his identity as an artist and overcome the doubts accompanying that process.
