Texan Americana outfit Left Arm Tan return with ‘Rolling Under The Stars’, their first commercial release since 2024 and the opening chapter of forthcoming album When Tigers Smoked, arriving October 9.
Right from the off, the single eases the band back into view with warm strings, slide guitar, understated vocals and bright flashes of brass. Rooted in classic Americana while carrying Left Arm Tan’s distinctly Texan storytelling, it introduces a record created under unusually direct circumstances.
Working with producer Salim Nourallah, the band recorded When Tigers Smoked live across six days in Dallas, largely avoiding click tracks, vocal correction and extensive overdubbing.
The album also follows a difficult period for songwriter Daniel Hines, who underwent several surgeries and faced months of recovery. Unable to perform, Hines instead turned towards writing, completing 57 songs in five months while considering mortality, purpose and resilience. Sharing that material with his Left Arm Tan bandmates ultimately prompted their return to the studio.
