Casey Lipka reflects on friendship and human connection on ‘Giving It Time’

For Los Angeles-based bassist, vocalist and composer Casey Lipka, music has long been rooted in collaboration. Across her career, she has consistently approached songwriting as a shared experience rather than a solitary pursuit. And her new EP ‘Giving It Time’ continues that ethos, offering a thoughtful exploration of the relationships that shape our lives.

Rather than focusing on grand statements or dramatic revelations, ‘Giving It Time’ examines the quieter aspects of human connection. The songs reflect on friendship, trust, vulnerability, and the patience required to build meaningful relationships over time. It is a project concerned with the work that genuine connection demands: honesty, forgiveness, mutual care and the willingness to remain present through life’s inevitable challenges.

These themes feel particularly fitting for an artist whose creative identity has been built around community. Throughout her career, she has sought opportunities to bring people together through music, whether through collaborative performance projects, educational initiatives, or programmes designed to amplify the voices of women and non-binary musicians. And that commitment to fostering connection extends naturally into the material explored on this EP.

The title itself suggests a central idea running through the project. Meaningful relationships rarely emerge instantly; they develop gradually through shared experiences and sustained effort. ‘Giving It Time’ appears to embrace that reality, reflecting on the value of patience in an increasingly fast-moving world. The songs acknowledge that the strongest bonds are often those built slowly, through both moments of joy and periods of difficulty.

Drawing from a broad range of influences and experiences, she has developed a style that prioritises emotional authenticity over adherence to any single genre. Her background as a performer, composer and bandleader allows her to move comfortably between intimate songwriting and more expansive arrangements, always keeping the emotional core of the music firmly in focus.

In many ways, the EP serves as a reminder that relationships are living things that require attention and care. Through its exploration of friendship, community, and authenticity, ‘Giving It Time’ offers a thoughtful meditation on what it means to truly show up for the people around us.

For Casey Lipka, music has always been a means of creating dialogue and connection. And with this new release, she continues that conversation, delivering a collection that values sincerity, patience and human connection above all else.
