Bleach the Sky deliver a powerful alt-rock surge on ‘Wash Away’

Boston trio Bleach the Sky return with renewed intensity on their latest EP ‘Wash Away’, a compact but emotionally charged collection that captures the band at a moment of reinvention and creative clarity. Built from years of experimentation, scrapped ideas, and late-night rehearsal-room breakthroughs, the five-track release feels both urgent and carefully distilled.

Formed in 2018 after an unlikely online connection brought the musicians together, the group has developed a sound that thrives on contrast. Their music balances melody with abrasion, pairing introspective songwriting with driving, high-impact instrumentation. And on ‘Wash Away’, that tension becomes the EP’s defining strength.

Frontman Zach Kraft anchors the project with reflective lyricism and guitar work that moves between delicate arpeggiated passages and dense walls of distortion. His writing often circles around themes of emotional pressure, fractured relationships, and the search for personal freedom; subjects that resonate strongly across the EP’s atmospheric yet explosive arrangements.

The rhythm section plays a crucial role in shaping the band’s identity. Rahul Srinivasan’s percussion provides both structure and unpredictability, guiding the songs through sudden shifts in intensity while maintaining a relentless momentum. Meanwhile, Alex Tighe’s basslines add a fluid melodic layer that subtly ties the band’s varied influences together.

The EP’s palette draws from a wide spectrum of alternative music traditions. Echoes of late-90s alternative rock shimmer alongside darker post-punk textures, while hazy shoegaze elements drift through the guitars. At times, the music even hints at heavier, groove-driven influences, creating a sound that feels nostalgic yet unmistakably modern.

Two standout moments help define the EP’s emotional range. Opener ‘GIN’ captures the band’s rawest energy, gradually building toward a thunderous finale that leaves a lasting impact. Elsewhere, ‘Tail Light’ offers a more expansive and anthemic moment that showcases the group’s ability to craft unforgettable hooks.

Recorded in Massachusetts with producer Jay Maas, the sessions were completed in an intense four-day window, a time constraint that seems to have sharpened the band’s focus rather than limiting it. The result is a recording that captures the immediacy of musicians pushing themselves to the edge.

After six years between EP releases, ‘Wash Away’ arrives as a defining statement for Bleach the Sky. It’s a project shaped by growth, shifting life circumstances, and an unwavering commitment to songwriting.

If this EP is any indication, the Boston trio have entered a powerful new chapter driven by experience, resilience, and a sound that refuses to stay confined to a single genre.
