Bonneville tease third album with ‘In the Jungle’

Bonneville has released their latest single, ‘In the Jungle’, via Starita Records, featuring legendary drummer Bernard “Pretty” Purdie. The track is the second to be taken from the Souther retro-soul band’s forthcoming third album, Hold for Room Tone.

A dark, gritty slice of ‘70s-inspired soul-funk, ‘In the Jungle’ seeks to recreate the inner-city soundscapes of the decade, drawing on the lineage of Curtis Mayfield, Donnie Hathaway and Bobby Womack. A deep-pocket groove, cinematic tension and elevated by Purdie’s unmistakable touch behind the kit.

Jeff Hayashi, guitarist, songwriter and co-producer, one half of the Bonneville duo, describes the track in stark terms, “If a knife fight were a song, this is it…energy that makes you feel the danger of dark alleyways and the slow creep of the struggle.”

Hayashi also teases that this is one of the darker sonic arenas of the album, crafted alongside Wes McGee, tight, deep funk. McGee adds, “This song feels like we’re really settling into our sound. A lot of what we’re doing now carries this same colour, but this track has a rhythm section that’s spine-tingling.”

Recorded at Fame Studios in Muscle Shoals, Bonneville continue to refine a raw and soulful energy that honours the legacy of classic American music. They echo the passions of the retro sound, built into something fresh with care, attention and a modern lens.
